Version 1.9.1 released

KrossWordz is a simple yet powerful crosswords client for Mac OS X. It can open any crosswords puzzle saved in the Across Lite puzzle format. It also offers to download daily puzzles from several online sources. All of that in a clean and intuitive aqua interface.

What's new in release 1.9.1:

  • Fixed the congratulations message which was missing the elapsed time to solve the puzzle.

  • Added an option to choose wether the timer will auto-start when a puzzle opens, of only after a letter is typed.
  • If you select "Open last played puzzle" from the welcome screen and the puzzle has been moved to the trash, a warning message is displayed.
  • Fixed a bug where a clue would not be checked when a word was completed in the transverse direction.
  • New sunday puzzles from the Washington Post are no more available, so the source has been removed from the Internet menu.
  • Fixed downloading puzzles from the MacNamara's source.
  • Added "The Onion", "Village Voice" and "Chronicle of Higher Education" sources.

  • The timer will now automatically resume if you write a new letter in a puzzle.
  • When printing a puzzle, the source and the file name are printed next to the puzzle title.
  • The crosswords section of The Herald web site was reworked a few weeks ago, and it became impossible for KrossWordz to download puzzles from them. Fixed.

Version 1.7.1 :

  • This update is highly recommended for people running version 1.7 as it contains a fix for a crash introduced in version 1.7
  • Fixed a crash when resuming KrossWordz after leaving it opened for a while.
  • Fixed the congratulations message that appears when completing a puzzle, so that it correctly shows the time spent to solve it.
  • The timer correctly stops when completing a puzzle.
  • Fixed a display bug when switching letters display.
  • Added options to select which "special" letters to mark with a custom color or badge.
  • Custom colors now also apply to badges.

Version 1.7 :

  • Added a timer.
  • Thinks.com source stopped working sometimes around mid-november. This version of KrossWordz restores support for Thinks.com which is now a daily source (was previously available from monday to friday only).
  • Some puzzles downloaded from LA Times failed to open due to an encoding problem in the clues. Fixed

Version 1.6.6 :

  • Added a menu item to clear the puzzle.
  • Fixed a crash when trying to download a puzzle from internet, just after the alert "This puzzle has already been downloaded" has been displayed.

Version 1.6.5 :

  • Fixed a crashing bug with Mac OS X 10.2.8
  • Fetching the unscrambled version of puzzles from the Washington Post stopped working at some point. Fixed.

Version 1.6.4 :

  • Added an ink saver option : when printing a grid, you can choose to print out black blocks using a soft gray instead of solid black.

Version 1.6.3 :

  • Added two new sources : San Fransisco Chronicles and New York Sun.
  • Added an option to change the font size of the clues.

Version 1.6.2 :

  • The alert that prevented you from downloading a puzzle twice was disabled by the upgrade to version 1.6.1. Version 1.6.2 re-enables this alert.

Version 1.6.1 :

  • Fixed a bug that could prevent printing to work properly if the option to show correct/incorrect/revealed letters with custom colors was enabled.

Version 1.6 :

  • KrossWordz is now a Universal Binary : it runs natively on PowerPC and Intel based Macs.
  • Added a preference to show how correct, incorrect and revealed letters will appear.
  • Added the ability to automatically check for updates.
  • Downloaded puzzles are now grouped by source (LA Times, NY Times...) inside the download folder
  • Fixed an encoding problem with puzzles from LA Times.
